Salo & Mary Levite

Salo Levite came to the U.S. from Munich, Germany at the age of 13. He served as a dedicated merchant for more than 60 years. He was also co-founder and executive of Meis from 1924 until he retired in 1986. He also served as president of the Retail Merchants Association and the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce during his career. His wife, Mary Levite, joined the business in 1932 and opened the Boulevard Room at Meis in 1947.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Levite were passionate about helping those in need. The Salo and Mary Levite Endowment Fund was established to do just that. The fund now provides grants to various organizations with a mission closely aligned to the Levite's philanthropic interests.
